SEEN was born in 1961 in The Bronx, New York as Richard Mirando. As one of the world’s most acclaimed talents from the Street Art movement, SEEN is rightly referred to as the ‘Godfather of Graffiti’ and his enduring importance to the art of the present is attested to by the countless exhibitions in leading international galleries and museums. In the early 1980s SEEN moved from the streets to the studio to produce original works on canvas.

When the genre of Street Art, which began as a form of subversive public communication, started to become legitimate, SEEN was at the forefront. Seen first started his painting art work on New York's subway in 1973. During the early 1980s Seen started producing work on canvas, shown by galleries and bought by museums and private collectors across the globe. These included solo exhibitions and also group shows with artists such as Keith Haring, Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat.
In the late 1980s Seen also turned his painting art talent
to tattoo art, opening Tattoo Seen, which quickly became one of the most successful studios in New York. Seen's recent work as an artist includes three-dimensional sculpture, mixed media work with reclaimed or discarded materials and a series of hand- painted, limited-edition MTA New York subway maps. He continues to exhibit worldwide. Today, SEEN’s works can be found in museums, galleries and prestigious private collections all over the world, influencing and producing alongside the next generation of inventive street artists.
